Unlike Ethereum, XRPL does not support complex smart contracts natively—its primary transaction types are payments, account sets, and offer creates.
‘Payment volume’ here refers to the number of Payment transactions processed on-chain per day. It excludes other transaction types. The 500,000 threshold is a round number, psychologically satisfying but statistically arbitrary unless compared to historical distribution.
In my 2020 DeFi composability mapping project, I learned that raw volume without wallet-level decomposition is noise. Back then, 70% of yield farming profits were extracted by MEV bots, not users. The total value locked was real, but the value capture was illusory.
